MAKETECHXCONFERENCE: QUESTION TECHNOLOGY
AND HELP TO SHAPE IT

creatives, maker, hacker and anyone that is interested in tech that matters and changes grab a ticket for this amazing event!

MaketechX is a two-day conference focused on “THINGS THAT MATTER” – there will be talks and presentations of products and projects that are helpful and meaningful in for your daily routine or even life-threatening situations.

with a firm focus on technology, innovation and development, the first ever MaketechXconference opens its doors at PLATOON KUNSTHALLE BERLIN.

as part of this intense two-day event, inspired – and inspiring – thinkers, makers, artists, scientists and developers meet and mingle to share ideas, learn, network and actively design solutions. the goal: to explore ambitious tech visions – and turn these into concrete projects with plenty of smart tech and DIY savvy. at MaketechX, audience and lecturers see eye to eye.

international pioneers like Jeremy Tai Abbett, creative evangelist at Google, Alexander Mankowsky, futurologist and trend strategist at Mercedes-Benz, or Dr. Daniel S. Margulies, head of a research team at the Max Planck Institute of Human Cognition and Neurosciences, take us behind the scenes of their fascinating fields.

the project is initiated by Lizzy and René Herzer with the aim to explore humanity’s options within this framework. “we are fascinated by all the different routes our involvement with technology might take and appreciate the importance of picking the right ones. that’s why we set up MaketechX.

they have found a supportive partner in Red Bull and welcome the many competent project partners – a. o. FabLab Berlin, Open Tech School, Knowable, Fritzing and Makerbot – who work towards the same common goals.”

8TH NOVEMBER as part of the MaketechXconference FROM 5:00 TO 10:00 PM

MAKE-A-THON MOCI (MASSIVE OPEN COMMUNICATION INFRASTRACTURE)

one of MaketechXconference’s undisputed highlights is the “MOCI“ make-a-thon kick-off on FRI 8TH AT 5:30 PM, organised by Make Munich founder Niels Hitze. here, hackers come together to develop a strong local Wi-Fi set-up for temporary events.

this would not only help conferences and big events by preventing communication break downs during a world cup screening or new year’s eve celebrations, but also areas in the world where a strong and stable network infrastructure still does not exist at all.

Join the MOCI make-a-thon – make the future happen!

PIONEERING TECH PROJECTS

innovative presenters include South African inventor Richard van As who lost four fingers to carpentry and, at prices of up to €10,000 per digit, could not afford the expensive replacements. Together with physician Ivan Owen he developed the so-called Robohand, a prosthetic suitable for printing with off-the-shelf 3-D printers. at MaketechX he will explain – and demonstrate – how this works using on-site equipment.

straight from Uganda, Josiah Kavuma of Matibabu takes us through the development of his Malaria detection device: as it does not require drawn blood to identify the disease, it not only helps to boost vital and life-saving early detection of the mosquito-borne virus, but also stems the spread of HIV via needles.

ADDED INFRASTRACTURE FOR MAKERS: THE MOBILE MAKETECHXLAB

also on hand and on its first outing: the bespoke mobile MaketechXlab (a so-called FabLab or fabrication laboratory), designed and developed together with FabLab Berlin. the open and democratic high-tech workshop aims to empower individuals, institutions and initiatives by putting industrial manufacturing methods at their disposal to create one-off projects or prototypes.

a Mercedes-Benz Viano equipped by Telekom with a roving <100Mbit/s connection for up to ten Wi-Fi enabled devices will serve as a towing vehicle - the MaketechXlab, a mobile ‘hotspot for makers‘.
