Kino Satellite in partnership with Nomaden Kino is pleased to present a very special show at PLATOON KUNSTHALLE! join us for an evening featuring animated documentaries from the 2013 and 2014 DOK Leipzig program. 

 

Annegret Richter, Head of the Animation Program at DOK Leipzig, will be joining us in person as we exhibit a fantastic international selection of Animadocs. this year the theme of the curated show is PASSION.

Grandfather / Grandpère

Kathrin Hürlimann, Switzerland 2013 6 min eng. Subtitle

Her grandfather is an arsonist who set fire to his workplace in 1969 in protest and then turned himself in. The granddaughter searches his biography for motives for this act.

 

Blackout

Sharron Mirsky, Canada 2013, 4 min, english

A short animated documentary film in which several storytellers share their experiences of the Northeast blackout of 2003, which affected much of Ontario, and seven U.S. states. The unexpected effects on the community highlight the best of our humanity under adverse conditions.

 

I love Hoooligans

In this film we enter the world of a homosexual football hooligan. Football is what he lives for, and his sexual orientation and love life have been relegated to the margin. It is a well-kept secret. As a hooligan, his club is everything to him. So at the end of the day, he has but one dream: “To die in the arms of my loved one“.

As a Jew growing up in Baltimore, he learned to fear the German people. Through recurring travels to Berlin, he now initiated his own reconciliation project. This animated film, posing the big questions about good and evil, provides disconcerting answers.

The film is a portrait of “Suleima”, a strong and revolutionary person against any restriction in Syria. The film is an example of thousands of anonymous women that fight against dependency and injustice.

A pregnant soon-to-be mother is forced to choose whether her beloved child should try to live or not with a cardiac malformation. Feelings of anger, powerlessness and immense grief overwhelm her.

 

The Night Witch

Nadezhda “Nadia” Popova was a 19-year-old amateur pilot when World War II came to her doorstep. After the Nazis entered the Soviet Union in 1941, Nadia joined the all-female 588th Night Bomber Regiment of the Soviet Army, becoming one of the world’s first woman combat flight pilots. 

 

Mr. And Mrs. Panda

With appropriate pomp and protocol Mrs. Panda Tian Tian and Mr. Panda Yang Guang, better known as Sweetie and Sunshine, move into their new residence.
