"awakening your true desire
closely tied to the idea of protection is the necessity of war, when peaceful coexistence is broken and alternative options are left unexplored. the air around us becomes eerie like the edge of a blade, and the differences between you and me are mistranslated into opposition or antagonism. 'Is true coexistence just in an ideal world?' this question led me realize I should seriously reevaluate my own desires and priorities.
my pattern series deals with the subject 'desire'. i chose the gun and the knife - basic weapons of war – to symbolize humans’ evil desires. by overlapping and transforming these weapons to create patterns, I cause them to lose their original meaning and function. instead, they may seem like a christmas tree, a star, or even an active, living creation. i intend to imply that these weapons, when freed from themselves and their original meaning, can convey new messages through the use of patterns."
