kang jin

kang jin questions the state of loneliness in times of social networking services and an abundance of hi-tech communication media.

"you are lonely because we are human

these days, we can communicate seeing each other’s faces and we can keep in touch with each other at any given time. we just need to make the effort to do so. however, even if we have all the means that allow us to get closer to each other, we still feel lonely. We get irritated when our mobile phone doesn’t ring. we become obsessed with the number of visitors to our blogs and mini-hompys. the more we are able to communicate, the more we are anxious about being left alone. we become more sensitive about the connections with others, and become dependant. also, we try to find comfort in people around us and would die to be the centre of attention. despite our desperate attempts, shackles of anxiety and fear never leave us. I wanted to tell a story about this kind of loneliness we have nowadays. we are closer than ever, but we are lonelier than ever." (artist's statement)
