despite the disturbing nature of cha joo sang's digital characters, the artist's intention is not to horrify the viewer. they are rather reflections on interpersonal relationships and limitations of the human nature.
"how cunning our memory is, how narrow-minded our range of consciousness and how standardized even things related to our desires are. is it impossible to fully understand other people? and how scary it is to look at oneself directly. in conclusion, me and you, we are all extremely incomplete and irrational.
all these things make me sick and tired but I’m not in the position to correct or change other people’s values. what I can do is to confess, remorse, resolve, give up and to heal through writing and painting. but it happens very slowly. it seems it will take at least a thousand years even to solve my own problems in this way…" (artist statement)
